The purpose of this week is to explore not only the hands on practice of growing our own food close to home, but the CULTURE surrounding it. The social movement behind the push to create space for urban agriculture is widespread. Sustainability, human and environmental health, local economies, and ownership of our food source, are topics that are becoming valid to an ever increasing population base and demographic.
During the week we will be showcasing local businesses and restaurants that make healthy, local food a priority, and then during the weekend, there will be a variety of workshops available to the public. Among many other, speakers include Dr. John Church speaking about egg-laying hens, Ian Farber giving a presentation on honey bees and Chris Harder doing a hands-on coop building workshop.
If there are local businesses that are interested in sharing with Kamloops what they do to support urban/ local agriculture, they can contact Bonnie at b_klohn@yahoo.com or 250 819 1571.
OR if people who are interested in participating personally or as part of a business can leave a comment on this post with their idea, name and contact info.
